New smart pumps improve safety and prevent medication errors

Christiana Care is taking another step forward in enhancing patient safety with "smart" infusion pumps, designed to eliminate manual entry and the potential for human error in administering the majority of IV medications and fluids. These smart pumps offer immediate access to patient information by associating the patient, the device and medication orders. This information is then sent to the electronic medical record for viewing and interpretation.

The Christiana Care Critical Care Nurse Residency program has been granted formal accreditation with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The 24-week program integrates educational components with preceptor-led clinical experiences to ease the transition to critical care nursing. It convenes in March and July.
